Widows & The Elderly Visitation
Holy Family Home for the Elderly, Mushin · Lagos State Government Old Peoples' Home, Lancaster Road, Yaba · Widow Clusters across Lagos
In 2012, the KUTH Foundation launched one of its most tender programmes — a dual outreach to two of society's most overlooked groups: widows in need and the elderly in institutional care. Volunteers drove across Lagos, their vehicles loaded with food parcels, clothing, and supplies, to bring both material aid and human presence to people who needed both.
The outreach covered widow clusters across Mushin and surrounding communities, where KUTH distributed food, clothing, and financial support — and went further still, offering legal representation through its Widows In Need (WIN) Micro-Finance scheme for widows whose in-laws were taking advantage of them in the wake of their husbands' deaths.
For the elderly, KUTH visited three homes: the Holy Family Home for the Elderly at Regina Mundi Catholic Church in Mushin, operated by the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos; the Lagos State Government Old Peoples' Home on Lancaster Road, Yaba, under the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development; and additional care facilities in the city. At each location, the team distributed essential supplies unloaded from their vehicles, sat with residents, and brought companionship alongside provisions.
This was not a drop-and-go exercise. KUTH volunteers gathered with widows under open-air canopies, listened, counselled, and prayed with them. The visits established what would become a consistent thrice-annual widows outreach tradition — returning to the same communities, building trust, and deepening the Foundation's commitment to those who grieve alone.
"Apart from the fact that we provide basic necessities to these two groups, we go the extra length of providing legal representation for widows whose in-laws are taking advantage of them."— KUTH Foundation, Widows & The Elderly Programme

The KUTH Foundation Widows & The Elderly programme has run three times annually since 2012. It combines material aid — food, clothing, and provisions — with financial support, micro-finance access through the WIN scheme, and legal representation for widows facing exploitation. Elderly residents at institutional homes across Lagos receive regular visits, supplies, and companionship.
