KUTH Soccer Project (Maiden Edition)

The Tournament

It all began on the 8th day of October 2011 after several weeks of planning, a group of talented young Nigerians living within Festac Town were offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sharpen their skills and to experience first-hand, the thrills and challenges of playing football for a living.

Youths aged between 16 and above were enjoined to come together from the various roads and avenues making up Festac for purposes forming teams. The teams were made up of 15–man football team and at the end of the day, there were sixteen duly registered teams representing all the youths in Festac Town.

The tournament lasted over a period of one week with two matches played daily.

Each team was accorded a level playing field to enable them as a team to realize their collective dreams of individually becoming a world-class player in the nearest future.

Hence the teams were formed from across all the Roads and Avenues making up Festac Town without bias for any individual. In the process, the winner of the soccer competition went away with the sum of N500,000 while the second and third place winners got N350,000 and N150,000 respectively, highest goal scorer went home with a Blackberry Playbook.

Aim of KUTH Foundation Soccer Tournament

It is all about enlightening and empowering our youths as well as discovering talents. It is a life-changing opportunity for young players as well as an opportunity of getting them off the streets and out of trouble.

The Founder’s message

I feel great! This is what I have longed for, to impact positively on the lives of the youths and to do my best in opening doors and giving hope to the younger generation. It is a way of giving back to the society.

The main reason why the maiden edition of this project is holding in Festac is because it is my root. Frankly speaking, we do not have a proper foundation for the development of the youth, this is why a lot of them easily embrace: prostitution, robbery, cultism, drugs, abortion, etc.

I think the time is right for those who have to come out of their shells and try to give something back to the society and I believe that there are so many things that can be done to save our youths. Once they are saved, our future is guaranteed.

Progress Report

We have managed to discover a few good players but our disappointment is that a lot of young people are more into computer frauds, clubbing, prostituting, cultism, hard drugs and armed robbery than engaging in things that can assure them of their future. So for us, there is a lot of work to be done.

This is a reality that all of us have to face and we hope other meaning Nigerians will join hands with us. We on our part will do our best to regain the good old days.
