FESTAC 2013 lives up to bill. KUTH Foundation celebrates Next-Level artistes

NOT unexpectedly, the KUTH Foundation Football (KUTH-FF) carnival came to a grandiose close last Saturday (Jan. 26, 2013), with FESTICO FC of Festac Town Lagos carting home the winner-trophy and the N650,000 cash prize attached.

It was difficult to discern where the revelry was greatest - whether it was in winning the soccer diadem or in the excitement provided by the large array of up-coming and established artistes and sundry entertainers who gave the event the carnival touch.

The week-long carnival had as its theme, the core objective of KUTH Foundation: “Zero-Tolerance for Social Vices among Youths.”

Across the week while the jamboree lasted, crooners and sundry entertainers, including Sound Sultan, Burna Boy, Solid Star, Oritse Femi, Dammy Krane, Sexy Steel, Jaycil, Wale Wayles, Abdul (Black Tribe), Xcellence, Made, Mallam Spicey, Sage Kwality and W4, were prominent in daily shows at the FHA Field (Festac Town) venue of the shindigs.

Football aficionados, lovers of the entertainment world, youth-development protagonists, and a horde of philanthropists joined the teeming crowd of youngsters in the day-to-day carousing throughout the eight days it lasted.

In adding pep to the old saying that, “the teacher was once a student too,” two novelty soccer matches were staged on the opening and closing days, respectively, between Dagogo & Friends FC, and Festac Eleven and the Coaches Team. (KUTH Foundation principal promoter Mr. Gerald A. Azonobo is a.k.a. “Black Dagogo” by peers).

Curiously, both encounters ended one goal-apiece on each occasion and to the delight of a wide array of dignitaries, which included Hon. Sultan Adeniji-Adele, member Lagos State House of Assembly (Representing Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I); Mr. Michael Emordi Ojede, president/CEO of Pearl Hospitality Services; and Mr. Bemigho Eyeoyibo, president of Neo-Black Movement of Africa (NBM) Worldwide.

Also in the crowds of personalities attending were Messrs Norbert Okolo, Sanni Momoh, Oska Orji Omolu, Michael Ubah, Bar. Emeka Oji, Wale Faniyi (“Mr. Bite”), Chris Ofoeze, Alvin Marcus, Michael Odili, Iyabo Ojo. There were also Messrs Chibuike Victor Duru, Aaron Williams Arigbe, Okwudili Ifediora, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ibe, Jones Obodoechina and Charles Okey Okonkwo.
